May 14, 2016: With our son on the way, I leave Apple and start freelancing as a web designer, graphic designer, and video editor so I can support my family.

Sep 17, 2017: My wife and I decide to drop all services except for Web Design / Development. I start working with WordPress.

Dec 10, 2017: Thomas (my mentor) tells me to learn to code. I start learning PHP.

Feb 10, 2020: I start a contract with Tomotechi, building WordPress sites and running Linux servers.

Jul 10, 2020: I start a contract with Pearson Education, moving their Math & Science platform from PHP 4 to PHP 7.3.

Mar 01, 2021: I join Fox World Travel as a Web Application Developer and start building with Vue, Inertia, Laravel, and Tailwind.

Oct 07, 2024: Steven Fox and I launch Voices of the Code, a podcast where we interview people from the Laravel community.

Oct 10, 2024: I move to LuminFire as a contract Solutions Engineer, leading client projects from discovery to delivery.

Apr 07, 2025: I join Canyon GBS as a Software Engineer, building CRMs with Laravel and Filament.

Nov 08, 2025: After Canyon GBS, karlm.dev becomes VheissuLabs, where I build hardware and open-source tools. You can just do things.

Dec 04, 2025: I start contracting with 92 Labs and make the first commit on Sidekick, a live cart display for point-of-sale tills.

Mar 26, 2026: I start contracting with Notary Dash and lead the ground-up rewrite of their platform.

Aug 17, 2026: I start building GitDifferent, a git client with a real three-way merge tool.

Sep 22, 2026: I start building tql, a database client for the terminal.
